The largest public cistern in Matera, carved into the tuff about fourteen metres deep beneath Piazza Vittorio Veneto and able to hold over five million litres of water. Rediscovered in 1991, today it is visitable thanks to suspended metal walkways and serves as an evocative underground setting for cultural events.
